Paul Yoon

Founder and Principal Architect

Paul Yoon is a registered architect, interior designer and NSW Design Practitioner with more than 25 years of experience across architecture, interior design and project delivery.

As the founder and principal of YG Architects & Interior Designers, Paul leads a multidisciplinary Sydney architectural practice working across residential, multi-residential, commercial, retail, industrial, government and community projects. His experience ranges from bespoke homes, alterations and additions, and multi-unit developments to commercial interiors, specialised accommodation, social housing and complex building upgrades.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Design in Interior Design (Honours) from the University of Technology Sydney. This combined architectural and interior design background enables him to approach each project holistically—considering the relationship between the building, its interior spaces, its occupants and its wider context.

YG Architects & Interior Designers

Founded in 2012, YG Architects & Interior Designers is a Sydney-based architectural and interior design practice delivering projects throughout New South Wales.

Our work is defined by thoughtful design, technical precision and a clear understanding of how buildings must perform in practice. We develop architectural solutions that respond carefully to their site, planning context, functional requirements, construction methodology and budget while maintaining a strong and coherent design vision.

The practice has experience across:

  • Bespoke houses, alterations and additions

  • Duplexes, townhouses and multi-residential developments

  • Apartment buildings Class 2 projects

  • Commercial, retail and workplace design

  • Industrial and automotive facilities

  • Government and social housing

  • Seniors living and specialised accommodation

  • Community and public-interest projects

  • Remedial architecture and existing-building upgrades

  • Regulated designs and DBP compliance

Whether the project involves a new building, the adaptive reuse of an existing property, a complex alteration or regulated remedial work, we bring together design creativity, practical problem-solving and detailed technical knowledge.

Our Approach

We believe successful architecture must be both inspiring and enduring.

Every project begins with listening carefully to the client and developing a clear understanding of the brief, site and desired outcome. We then translate those requirements into considered, functional and contextually responsive architecture.

Our approach combines:

  • Creative and site-responsive design

  • Intelligent spatial planning

  • Integrated architecture and interior design

  • Careful selection of materials and finishes

  • Buildability and long-term performance

  • Planning and regulatory knowledge

  • Detailed construction documentation

  • Coordination with consultants, authorities and contractors

From the initial concept through approvals, documentation and construction, we maintain a consistent focus on design quality, clarity and successful project delivery.

Government and Community Architecture

YG Architects & Interior Designers has extensive experience delivering architecture for government, housing and community-sector clients.

Paul has contributed to more than 100 government housing projects throughout New South Wales, including social housing, specialised accommodation, building upgrades and remedial works. These projects require a careful balance of dignity, accessibility, durability, safety, cost and long-term operational performance.

The Griffith Women and Children’s Safe House was recognised in the NSW Best Practice Design Standards for its considered response to domestic and family violence accommodation. The project reflects our commitment to creating safe, inclusive and supportive environments for people and communities.

We continue to collaborate with government agencies, project managers, consultants, contractors and community organisations to deliver practical, socially responsible and enduring architectural outcomes.

Technical and Regulated Design Expertise

In addition to architectural and interior design services, the practice provides specialist experience in regulated design and compliance for Class 2 and other applicable regulated buildings in New South Wales.

Paul is registered as both an Architectural Design Practitioner and Principal Design Practitioner under the NSW Design and Building Practitioners framework. This expertise supports the preparation, coordination and declaration of regulated architectural designs, including documentation for new developments, alterations, remedial works and building-envelope upgrades.

Our technical experience includes construction documentation, consultant coordination, waterproofing detailing, accessibility, façade and window upgrades, remedial design and NSW Planning Portal documentation.
